Capricorn: Forklift History
Steinbock began production in 1925, initially only producing car jacks and pallet trucks. The then young company survived the economic crisis in the late 1920s with successful pallet truck production. The range was able to expand and the first electric driver's seat forklift was manufactured in Germany in 1943. However, it was not put into production due to the war situation.
Until 1949, industrial trucks were no longer allowed to be produced. Instead, the factory focused on agricultural equipment. Only with the beginning of the Federal Republic was the confiscation of the US armed forces lifted and production of the electric forklift truck developed in 1943 began. Steinbock forklifts with combustion engines were later manufactured in the 1950s. Due to the huge success of Steinbock, further plants were opened in Roding (in the Bavarian Forest) and Galaway (Ireland).
Capricorn: Takeover story
The factory in Moosburg was taken over by the competitor “Lancer Boss” in 1983 and Steinbock Boss GmbH was founded. In 1990, the previously strong company fell into a serious crisis and had to file for bankruptcy due to the collapse in export figures.
The Steinbock company was bought by the Jungheinrich company in 1994. In 2002 the Steinbock brand was dissolved and all products are now sold under the Jungheinrich brand. The Company Jungheinrich carries, among other things, products such as forklifts, storage technology and accessories for forklifts.
